    • NSU’s Dr. Scott Poland leading the training of warning signs of teen suicide, prevention and mental health awareness

Guest speaker Dr. Scott Poland from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale is training principals on warning signs of teen suicide, prevention and mental health awareness.

Police said the problem with teen suicide is amplified by social media and cell phones and the more administrators know about the warning signs, the more teens can be helped before it’s too late.

“Most youth suicides can be prevented,” Poland said. “And what’s really holding us back is lack of training on suicide warning signs, or we are afraid to bring up the subject.”

The teen suicide prevention training began Thursday and runs all day today.

Hailey’s voice of hope says it hopes the training of principals this week will trickle down to classroom teachers.
